11/20/15….Knox, PA……..The BRP Modified Tour racing series held their banquet last weekend and over 125 people were in attendance at the Knox Fire Hall in Knox, PA to see Rex King, Sr. pick up his sixth Modified Tour Championship. Eighteen of the top twenty drivers were on hand to pick up their cash money awards which totaled over $22,000.
Rex King, Sr. picked up the Championship along with his check for $3,600 for winning the series points by being very consistent during the 7 race series events in 2015. Although he did not pick up a feature win this season, he was always in the top five at each event. Along with his check for $3,600 Rex also was awarded a Hoosier Tire Certificate, a sheet of Wrisco Aluminum, a give certificate for Big Daddy’s Speed Center and also was given $145 in cash to put towards the Dream Racer in his name, which his wife Sis King is in charge of putting into local Children’s Hospitals.
Finishing second was Dave Murdick who finished just 21 points behind King, Sr. and who also picked up two feature wins, one at the opener of the series at Raceway 7 and the other win came at Mercer Raceway Park in August.
The 2014 Champion, Rex King, Jr. came home third in points and won the first $5,000 to win race held by the Modified Tour at Tyler County Speedway on July 2nd.
Finishing fourth in points was Kevin Bolland who was returning to the Modified ranks after sitting out a couple of seasons. Kevin picked up the feature win at the season finale at Eriez Speedway on Labor Day weekend.
Rounding out the top five for 2015 was Ricky Richner who made the long tow from Niagara Falls, NY every race to compete with the local guys.
Rounding out the top 20 were Jim Rasey, Garrett Krummert, Eric Gabany, Rick Regalski, Jeremiah Shingledecker, Tom Glenn, Kevin Hoffman, Erick Rudolph, Rodney Beltz, Shawn Fleeger, Carl Murdick, Mark Frankhouser, Max Smoker, Dillon Barr and Steve Barr.
Other feature winners during the series included Erick Rudolph who piloted the Randy Chrysler #21R mount and won the race at Expo Speedway and the second $5,000 to win event at Tri City Raceway Park. Jim Weller, Jr. picked up the other feature win by capturing the Lou Blaney Memorial Race at Sharon Speedway.
All of the top 20 drivers received their point fund money, a sheet of Wrisco Aluminum, a gift certificate from Big Daddy’s Speed Center and a Modified Tour T-Shirt.
Special Awards given by Racequip went to Randy Chronister – Debbie Oyler Memorial Award; Jim Rasey – Hard Charger Award and Steve Barr. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to racing legend Carl Murdick who is retiring from the sport at 55 years of racing.
There were 20 drivers out of the top 21 in points that had Perfect Attendance and received an additional $200 in cash.
The tentative 2016 schedule was reviewed and Mercer Raceway Park will kick off the series on March 26th as part of their Chiller Thriller event. Then the rained out show from 2015 will be run at Sharon Speedway as part of the Russ King Memorial on April 16th. Saturday, July 9th with be the running of the Lou Blaney Memorial race with a raindate of Sunday, July 10th. The Modified Tour will return to Expo Speedway on Thursday, July 14th and then make a return appearance at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 16th. The month of August will find the Modified Tour back at Mercer Raceway Park on August 13th and then a return to Eriez Speedway will come around Labor Day weekend. There are other tracks that the Modified Tour is in negotiations with and that will be released at a later date.
